Looking to put a new zinc on the shaft. Can some tell me the diameter. I will be doing this in water.

76 hunter shaft diameter?

As far as I know all the Cherubini's, H25 to H37C, have a one inch shaft. But maybe you should wait for confirmation. Or take your calipers into the "engine room".

My 79 30 has a 1 1/4" shaft, or maybe 1 1/8 - I forget now, but it is definitely larger than 1". I'll just have to measure it again before the next zinc.
Tom, how soon can we get a measurement? It would be very unusual for your '79 to not have a one inch shaft. Because of your post I searched further. I found three owners, a '76, a '78, and an '80 all with one inch shafts. And because the bigger boats all had one inch shafts it would be odd for an H30 to be 1 1/8" or 1 1/4".

I was at the boat tonight, but hadn't checked the site in a day or two and didn't see your post Ed. I have a 3GMD Yanmar in there which I am pretty sure was not the original engine, so the PO that did the re-engine may have upped the shaft size too. Upon reflection I'm fairly certain I measured 1 1/8." I was using a ruler and checked it about a dozen times because I was having the local diver put a zinc on while he was cleaning the bottom, but of course a ruler isn't as precise as calipers. Still, 1/8 inch is more than a 10% increase over 1 inch and should be readily measurable with a ruler. In any case, I'll recheck (hopefully tomorrow) and report back. I'll put a crescent wrench or something on the shaft and measure the gap too rather than just try to eyeball a ruler.

The reason I am confident is that a shaft change would require a new strut or boring out the old one to accept a larger cutlass. But if I was always right I'd be sailing a new Hunter.
