Cal 29 Punta Gorda, Fl
Hey everyone. I am trying to find a owners manual for my 76 Cal 29. I have been doing alot of work on my girl as of late. I really would love to get my hands on an origanal or a copy of the owners manual. I also need a manual for the Ferrymam. (never remember the spelling). I am having a problem finding a compression ring for the fuel injector. It is leaking pretty bad and is smelling up the boat. I thought the flange was cracked but I cleaned it all up and started the engine and watched it drip out the seam. Can anyone tell me what would be a good replacement for this engine if I go that route? It is getting up there in age and it is raw water cooled. I am nervous about what the water jacket looks like inside. Were can I find spreaders for her as well? Thanks guys for any help you can offer up. I am willing to pay for the books if anyone has them. Cal 29 owners man and motor man

Hi Robert, I just came across the manual for my '77 2-29, and I also have the full set of Farymann manuals. I can make a copy of the Cal manual for you, and copy any Farymann pages you might need. Most of the engine manuals are in German, but I have a couple in English. The only place that I've found for Farryman parts is PRP Inc in NJ (http://www.farymann.com/) - Seems like starting price for parts is $300 and they're the only game in this country for Farymann marine parts.

Manuals on disk

The Farymann manual is too big to download, so send me your address and I'll send you the Cal 29 manual and two Ferymann manuals on a disk in PDF. The only place for parts for the Farymann is PRP in NJ (http://farymann.com). I'm researching replacements right now and am leaning toward the 13.5-hp Beta Marine.

another pic

The last photo. Shows the bowsprit the prior owner added to her. The outer forstay is functional and she can be set up as a cutter.

Compression rings

You can also take your old rings, heat them up with a propane torch and douse them in water to soften them back up.

Leaky Compression Ring

Hey all! I just took the plunge and bought my first sail boat. 1974 Cal 2-29. Great interior but a little tired on the deck. I spent some time with the boat this weekend taking good inventory of the sails, rigging, etc. While on board I thought the smell of diesel was pretty strong but chalked it up to the fact that it has sat idle for a few months waiting to be bought. I have the A30M single cylinder. Anyway, I'm intrigued by the couple of messages mentioning the compression ring on the fuel injectors. I have the original Farymann Diesel Workshop Manual and when I look for the compression ring I don't see anything. Can you share where it is located? I see a gasket that fits between the injector and the crankcase, but this looks to be more intricate than a "ring". This seems like something simple to get my hands greasy as I learn my way around the engine room. Thanks for the help. PS I hope to have pictures soon!

In regards

to a possible repowering of the boat, I would refer you to Joe DeMurs. He sells Beta Marine deisel engines and is very helpful. I know of many Cals that have beenrepowered with these. (See link below) I must say also that my Yanmar is great so far. Regarding the manual, check the Cal discussion group on Yahoo. There are a bunch of people on the site that have archived manuals, brochures etc...about all the Cals. A few of the guys worked and know Bill Lapworth, the designer of these great boats. rings

Hey All, The rings I have been talking about are the compression rings on the banjo fittings on the injector. I got my hands on one and thats all it took to fix it.

rings

The rings are located at the banjo fitting the connects the fuel lines to the injectors.

Fellew Cal 29/ Ferryman owner

I have the complete manual and IPC for the old ferry man. Which part do you need and maybe I could find you the part number. The only problem is finding the part once it is identified. That's the problem I've been running into.

Entec West v. PRP

Entec West will have some parts, but their focus on Farymann is pwering their Genset. PRP (Parts R Parts) in NJ (732-286-6104 - ask for Ralph) is the only place that you'll get OEM Farymann marine parts.

hello

Hey johnm did you still have those spreaders you wanted to get rid of? Let me know. Can email me at sailtome69@yahoo and put in subject from cal forum. thanks After being injured for 4 months I am now able to work on my boat again. back to fixing things. With luck I wont hurt my back again for a long time. Also Does anyone think its okay to just yank out the inboard and put a outboard on my cal 29? or should I just repower? I think the engine is just getting old..
