Hi, Does anyone out there know anything about 1975 Columbia 26T's? I am looking at picking one up but from the looks of the hull it would be a dog. The keel is really long but wide. Looks like it would point terrible and need a very stiff wind to get moving. Thanks, jroznos@tampabay.rr.com

Columbia 26T.

I have personally sailed on a columbia 26 (not the T version) and I have talked to owners and others who have sailed the 26 MKII. My experience is that the 26 sails well, points well, and is a hardy boat. I do not know the differences between the T and the others, but I doubt it would be that different. Check out the Columbia list on sailnet. There are a couple of 26T owners there. Cam Whetstone s/v C36 - Wolf's Den Baltimore, Md

T26 and Love It

My neighbor has had his T26 since it was brand new in 1975. They also have 2 other larger sailboats. They love the T26 for cruising the Bay. It has a shallow draft that lets you cruise almost anywhere. This year we bought a 1975 also. It needed TLC but it was in great shape. We had our rudder modified to take advantage of the shallow draft, etc. We don't have a problem with sailing her. She has won her share of races downwind. I think the only problem they have is slide slip...but we are not in a hurry so it doesn't bother us at all and the trade-off for a shallow draft is well worth it.
