Hello All, I have a Daysailer II and this question is about the trailer, not the boat. The trailer i have has flat boards on it and is a real pain to load and unload. I was looking to put some rollers on it to make it much easy to mount and dismount off and on the trailer. When i consulted a dealer they told me I have to find out if the boat can support a roller system or not, They said the boat may actually be too heavy to use such a system. My question is, Is anyone using a roller system on there trailer, if so do you have any specifics you can tell me how to convert? If I cant use a roller system, what steps can i take to make the boat easier to load and unload without damaging it? What have you done to your trailer to make it easy to load and unload? you will have to take a real look at your hull bottom and ask yourself if rollers will work or not due to the shape of the hull. rollers on rocker mounts may work for your boat. any trailer supply will have all the parts necessary to convert. the trailer dealer should have an idea after looking at your setup.

TRAILER
We have a full roller set up on our trailer for our mariner. The hull bottom shape is close between both models ours is a bit larger with more free board. We have not had any problems with this set up i also have seen a daysailor ot out marina with a setup very close to ours. Hope the picture helps.

Extension bar
Roller system can put a lot of pressure in a very small area. Do you have an extension bar on your trailer? Mine extends the trailer bar 8' longer. I can launch easily even on a shallow ramp.

Daysailer Trailer Roller Mounts
My Daysailer trailer is a Karavan make. It has the bunkers or bars at rear with 2 rollers, one on the tongue and one on the next cross member. They can be bought at Boaters World or Wet Marine or any discount marine store. I found that the centerboard which hangs down about 18" at the rear, was riding on the axle between two cross members that have pads for the centerboard to slide over on pulling boat onto the trailer. I made a board a little longer than the distance of the of those cross members and screwed 2 short 2X4's under it to attach to the cross members with bolts. I then covered the board, a 1X6 (actually an old piece of shelf) with indoor/outdoor carpeting. Now the centerboard slides along it to launch without having to back in so far. It helps on loading it also. I remove the board after launching to store, but could stay in place also.

You should have no problem with an ez-loader trailer. That is what I have, with rollers. I replaced the 2x4 in the picture with a keel roller, and have another roller half way between the front of the centreboard slot and the bow. I calculated that I have about 50 pounds of weight on each roller. If you wanted to, you could add a set of forward rollers as well, but I have not problem getting the boat on and off my trailer.

Great replies all.. Thanks for the responses. I ll send the dealer this link and have them take a look at it to see what i need. I definately want to convert. The off loading is simple enough, its loading it in a current that makes the boat ride right over the trailer and it never gets centered right. I end up tying off the back of the boat with a line and try to hold the line while i winch it in.... a really joy.. Then of course i see the guy next to me roll right up on his trailer, leans out and connects the winch and hes all done, beautiful.. It needs some paint anyway so its time to do that too while Im doing this.. could even touch up the trailer a little. The trailer is a karco (i think) and needs some work. If anyone has more ideas let me know, the paint will take a few days anyways

I am 50 and 200+ pounds, and it does not seem to affect me the next day, so I must be using good body physics, humping it over to the centerline before tying it down. For the most part though, the rollers keep it fairly close to center on the trailer.

There are various kinds of entension bars. All function to entend your trailer tongue so that you can back your trailer further into the water without backing your vehicle in as far. A basic extension bar U-bolts under your tongue and has a hitch which hooks on to your vehicle, thereby extending the tongue 6 to 10 feet. A more sophisticated model may swing out or slide from the side of or under your tongue and do the same thing. Some marinas may have on site, up to a 30' bar with a hitch on one end for your vehicle and a ball on the other end for your trailer and a crossbar axel near the ball (boat) end with wheels. You can then effectively back your trailer 30' into the water without getting your tires wet! Great for those really shallow ramps.

Gotcha... I will have to look at it today. Im going to launch it today and really take a good look at it. As far as the extension bar goes, it looks like you could just unclip the bar and install a new one. What a great idea! Thanks all, this will help me out a lot. We have a lot of shallow ramps around. I have never taken the boat off the trailer on land, but Im going to attempt this at the end of this week. I want to paint the bottom of it. One of the support boards is twisted and pushing the hull upward just a bit, nothing big but it definately cant stay like that. With this in mind Im not sure if a roller system would support it good unless i have a ton of rollers on it. There is definately a lot to think about here to get it right.. Well its time to get off my butt this week and really get into this. I ll take some pics and send them up to the forum and see if with everyones help you can get me straight, it may also help out future people with these problems and help them make a better decision on how to fix all this..
