Hi, I recently purchased a Morgan 28 that has a Lectra-San sanitation system. I sail in a no-discharge zone (Chesapeake Bay) and wondered if the Lectra-San is worth keeping or is it better to bypass it altogether and plumb directly to a holding tank. I've also heard it can be a drain on batteries. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Keep the Lectra-San..it's legal on the Bay
The Chesapeake Bay is NOT "no discharge"...the discharge of treated waste from a CG Certified Type I or II MSD is legal in all the waters of the bay except for one small NDZ--Herring Bay (See the Chesapeake Bay marine sanitation regs here: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/boating/pumpout/ndz.pdf ). So you can use your Lectra/San everywhere else. As for the allledged current "drain," 1.7 AH/flush seems a bit scary till you realize that it5 only amounts to no more than about 8 AH/day/person. If you can't spare that much, you don't have enough battery resources for much of anything else. You need to read the manual for your L/S so you'll understand how it works and how to operate and maintain it.
