The 5411 on my 1982 c27 has no fuel shut off. All last year (our first with the boat) the engine shut down nicely when the throttle was put in a detente position. (If you moved the throttle farther aft, it started to increase fuel again). After commissioning this year, today it would not shut off. Period. A friend and I read the original manual that I have, and managed to find the lever that releases compression. Lifting it stopped the engine fine. It looks like it could be rigged to lift that lever from the cockpit- a spring keeps it engaged. Two questions: 1. any ideas how to get the engine to stop as it did last year by throttle action only? 2. Is it harmful to the engine to use the compression release lever as a the regular way to stop the engine?Of course, this problem today was preceded by the problem that the yard never tightened one fuel injector after bleeding, so it for a while we had a one cylinder engine which sprayed diesel fuel. Amazingly, it ran, but not well. So first it would not go, and then it would not stop. The adventures continue Advice always appreciated!
