disconected output side of my raw water pump to see if i was sending water to the engine and i am. My question is why don't i see it sputtering out the exhaust, i seem to always remember starting the engine, looking over the stern and seeing water spurt out every few seconds almost imediately. I am afraid to run the engine for more than a mimute as i may do damage. I have recieved conflicting info on my thermostat and whether or not it has any bearing on the path of the water to the exhaust.I need some knowledgeable input. Thanks

FWC ??

I assume your engine is fresh water cooled. If so, your problem probably isn't with the thermostat or any other component of the engine. It's with the raw water system. No water in the exhaust is usually a new water pump impeller. Replacement is usually very simple. The problem is, what caused it's demise?? Usually (for me) it's forgeting to open the thru hull til the engine starts to overheat. Fortunatly I've got an audible alarm to let me know it's overheating. Once it's open & no water is in the exhaust I get out my spare impeller & go to work.

oops !!

...just reread your post. Sorry for the stupid reply. You've already done that. It's still not the thermostat. If you are pumping water and nothing is coming out the exhaust it's most likely a clogged heat exchanger. Pull off the end and run a wood dowel through it to confirm that it's clogged. If so the a dowel of the proper size should open the tubes.
