I was just wondering what kind of luck has anyone had with their trolling motors perhaps 50lb thrust and up, on their sailboats, say 20 feet and up? I would truly like to hear imput on this! Thanks

57 lb. 6 hp four stroke.

At 57 lbs. the long shaft Mercury / Tohatsu / Nissan (all the same motor) 6 hp four stroke single cylinder outboard purrs at idle. You don't have to fiddle with the throttle at low RPMs like you do with a two stroke. Adding oil to the gasoline is unnecessary. The fuel consumption is frugal: At lower RPMs, that 3 gallon tank can last 10 hours! The only thing I don't like about that single cylinder motor is the vibration.

I use a 52lb. thrust motor on a 19 ft. Hunter (approx. 2300lbs. loaded) on a large lake here in PA. Moves the boat nicely!
