I am seeking advice on what to do about an issue that recently cropped up with my Dolphin 60 amp, 12V charger (120VAC, 3-bank). Specifically, the unit is specifying a temperature fault that prevents charging. The unit is not quite 5 years old and is one of two units on my boat. Since I prefer my Sterling 60 Amp unit (Thanks Mainesail for the recommendation) to the Dolphin (quieter), I always kept the Dolphin off unless using the genset to do some heavy bulk charging; even then I would shut it off as soon as the acceptance current dropped below 60 amp. The Dolphin still looks like new outside and inside.
I bought a new Dolphin-compatible temperature sensor from Defender last month and hooked it up, replacing the old one; it didn't fix the problem.
Can this unit be fixed? If so, who can I send it to? Dolphin doesn't respond to my emails. I'm an electrical engineer but I don't have a schematic or time to fool with the charger (the boat is on the hard and I am working like a dog getting it ready for my retirement cruise coming up very soon).
I would hate to have to spend the money to replace the charger with a Sterling-Pro--but I will if I have to.
Thanks for all the great advice I get from you folks.
