5 Winters Uncovered

I am looking at buying a 1975 C&C 25 from northern Minn. It's been trailor stored and left open to the weather for 5 seasons. Seller claims no leaks or soft spots. Nothing new has been added to the deck since he bought the boat. I havn't seen it yet, it's 506 miles away.
Price is a little high, in todays market, for me, but I think I could reach a deal. I just don't want to buy a bucket of trouble.
Opinions?

The 25 is an interesting boat. Trailer transportable, but I've never seen one launched via a ramp. Would be a great boat for the Apostles. If the hull is white (actually rare) gellcoat will be OK otherwise I bet very faded. Not sure if the hull is cored. They are on bigger C&Cs and if yes check very carefully for soft spots in the hull, which would be an immediate deal killer. Over time (30+ years!) original factory sealing will fail on deck penetrations; check ALL of them for sogginess.

25 mark IIs are slightly better sailers then the mark Is.

40.5 in Bayfield? The one at Pikes?

C&C

The 1976 C&C 25 that you are looking at is the mark 1 version. We have a pretty big fleet of C&C 25's in our club. The mark 1 and mark 2 have the same PHRF rating of 207. The mark 1's seem to do better downwind while the mark 2's do better upwind. There doesn't seem to be an advantage either way. They perform best in medium to heavy air conditions and point well considering that they don't come standard with inboard genoa leads. They are well constructed boats so don't let the age prevent you from taking a look. They definitely do not have cored hulls. The deck is cored and deserves inspection. Most boats with cored decks will have some issues but it's only a problem if it's extensive. If the deck fittings are poorly bedded, a winter cover will only delay the inevitable moisture intrusion. Faded topsides of colored hulls will most likely have happened well before now, covered or not. Good luck with your search.

Opinion: Great boat.
