Knots that is. Latest report (0700 PST)from our local weather buoy at Smith Island, WA and the barometer is in a free fall. Enough to blow dogs off chains. Think I'll hang on to my new puppy and put another reef in the main. Gary Wyngarden S/V Wanderlust h37.5

I wouldn't wanna be one of the delivery

crews on the 40 odd yachts that raced the "Around the County" this weekend. 50+ on the nose ain't much fun.

Mukilteo home with a view of Possession Point/Sound and Saratoga Pass...lots of white water. As much as I want to be out in it, I'll wait for calmer weather. Terry

I was out Saturday and it was good enough.

I didn't feel like beating yesterday and really don't want to be out with Storm Warnings up today. I'll wait till this weekend for some good old 15-25 to play in.

I just got back from the boat after

the marina called me. Nothing damaged as a good samaritan apparently tied off my main after 6 of my sail ties self destructed and vanished. Others weren't so lucky and had Genoas shredded. It must've been blowing something fierce as it pulled the new screws to my boom crutch cup out of the deck. I'll through bolt the cup and seal it with 4200 this time.

Extra Halyard

I received that call earlier this season from the marina manager: "First, your boats OK. Your headsail, on the other hand, not so good." Fortunately it was repairable. I also learned a way to reduce the risk while it's furled. I now wrap an additional halyard in a counter rotation to the rotation of the leach/foot of the jib. I then tie it off at the base of the forestay. Works great! My furler has an internal halyard so that leaves the normal headsail halyard available for this purpose but, a spinn halyard, etc. would work.

Being this is a yawl...

I have all kinds of extra halyards and sheets available. My crew still gets confused with all of the lines on this boat but they'll learn. 1. Genoa halyard 2. Staysail halyard 3. Main halyard 4. Spinnaker halyard 5. Mizzen staysail halyard 6. Mizzen halyard. 7. Genoa sheets 8. Staysail boom sheet 9. Spin sheets 10. Main sheets 11. Mizzen staysail sheet 12. Mizzen boom sheet Plus various flag halyards, four total I think.
