i have a 473. My wood toe rail is splitting under a couple of my cleats. A few years ago I saw a 473 that the owner had installed what appeared to be stainless steel covers over the toe rail and then installed the cleats thru the covers by drilling two holes. The stainless piece was about 2 feet long with the cleat centered. Does anyone know if these are commercially made or will I have to have them custom made?

If the wood is splitting under the cleats it may be because the aluminum spacers are disintegrating and not providing the support they were designed for. I bought new ones and have that on my list of jobs….. my wood is not splitting but I’m sure after 18 years it’s time.
Beneteau sells the spacers on their spare parts web site.

I have never seen a stainless cover but I have seen pictures where people cut the wood completely off at the cleat and mount it directly in the fiberglass.

good luck!
