Took a look at the 466 yesterday. The engine box seems very tight. Anybody add a large frame alternator for more than the 80 amps that comes stock? There's only room for 2 8D deep cycle batteries. I'd love to have 4 or even 6. Is there room anywhere for that? I think it's obvious that I don't want to be tied to the dock and I don't want to run the generator every day. Planning on having a large solar array plus wind generator for extended time without AC power. Anyone doing this with an H460/466?

Our P42 is set up very similar to yours...

Two 8Ds, Genset, etc. With both reefers on all the time, plus all the other power drains, the batteries need to be charged every other day. So, after I finish my seven mile run every other day, I need hot water for showering. I run the Genset for two hours, which heats the water, charges the batteries, etc. I've considered a wind generator and solar panels to extend the time between charges, but I still like taking hot showers. As far as adding a third or fourth 8D, lots of choices, but something has to give. The double hanging locker in our aft cabin has room, or the double hanging locker next to the nav station where the washer/dryer normally goes also has room. Both locations are close to the existing battery rack. Terry

adding batteries or solar

We are living through this now with our 1995 H430, getting ready to do this years Baja Ha Ha and then stay down in Mexico for 'who knows how long?'. I don't think Hunter figured we'd want or need more power, or they just didn't design in the space - Life is a swap-off. We can't find room for more big batteries either, without long runs with big wire. We have a nice GenSet and a 60 amp alternator. Right now we are setting up three 130 solar panels, and splitting the two big bateries into two banks. At the boat show I bought what seemed like a billion dollars worth of LED lights and replacement fixtures, along with replacing the white light at the top of the mast with an LED tri-color(as long as we were re-rigging and had the mast off anyway). We had figured we would be useing 150 to 175 amps per day, and now we are probably down to 100 to 125Max. So with two banks at 225 and three panels with a smart charger and the alternator we have (or maybe upgrade it and keep the present one as a spare part) we are anticipating not having to run the engine or GenSet more that for running the freezer back to 0 degrees every once in a while. The 'theory' works, in about a month when we are living in the Delta and de-bugging the system we'll find out how the theory matches up with reality. I am hopeing that some of the work is set up by this weekend so I can have some of the guys look at it at the Hunter Gathering in Alameda. There is a thread going on now regarding solar so take a look at it for some good ideas. Pat
