1)Assuming that you install a full cockpit enclosure, where and how would you mount a Bar-B-QUE? Large dickenson. Has any done it? 2) What size ground tackle are people using. If you go to Simpson Lawrence web site and look up what is required for a given size boat, the anchor selection algorithim they use returns a VERY small Anchor. I looked up Delta specs. and found that for a 45 foot boat, they recommend a 35lb. Delta. This sounds ridiculous. What are other people doing?

Anchor Size

I have a 450 - same hull size. I will be doing extensive crusing and want to sleep well. I am installing a 60 lb CQR with 200' of chain plus 3/4" rode.

cockpit enclosure

Normally you would enclose the cockpit with all canvas (etc.) fastening around the outside of the coaming. This leaves the stern rail seats and rails exposed, and is a good location to attach a BBQ and other rail items (instrument antennas, Lifeslings, etc.). /c s/v Twilight, H410 (with canvas, mesh and eisenglass enclosure)

I dragged anchor

I have had our 460 for about 3 months. The boat came with anchor and 10 metres of 8mm chain and heaps of rode. I found that if I didn't get the anchor to bite in to the mud there was no chance of staying in the same spot. Infact one night I woke at about 2am and took the obligatory look around. Youn could guess the horror on my face when just meter away was the bow roller of a larg cat. I tried to fend off but the wind was too strong. Waves slammed us together for a few minutes until the crew got to the deck and relieved me so I could start the engine and get out of there. I have since changed the gypsie to 10mm and purchased 250feet of 10mm chain. I'm sure a lot of sailors will say a little chain and rode is ok but I know I'll sleep a lot better now

The new BBQ that I put on my 460 actually slips in and locks to a fishing rod holder. That way it can be easily mounted with hardware that serves a dual pupose. George "BlackSheep"
