Before I start, is there anyone out there that has done this task that can offer some pointers.
Do this first or don't do this!
There is not much space, first the Fisher- panda genset will have to go!
Next?

It's a 1998 model sold in the UK in 1999 450 cc. Yanmar 4JH2-TE .... 45cc is a little different!
The previous owner made the mistake of allowing the breather tube from the carbon seal ring drop out of the overflow container. This filled the engine bilge full of salt water. Unfortunately, they did not drain or flushing it quick enough.
You can guess the rest!
Now that you know that any recommendations?

  • A puzzle. Our 4JH2-TE is an encapsulated cooled engine. Is yours an open sea water cooled engine? Just wondering how the engine bilge filled with sea water by the carbon seal ring dropping out of the overflow container (makes no sense).

Terry, the seal ring he refers to is for the dripless shaft seal not the cooling raw water intake. These seals have a vent tube that must be mounted with a loop above the water line or else it becomes a sea water fill tube. I'm wondering how the boat didn't sink if this happened unattended?

I give up, all I wanted to know is any pointers to get the engine out from someone who has done it before. No spence in inventing the wheel again!
Thanks.

Ninsar,
Sorry that I could not help but our boats / engine compartments are too different. Surely there are some owners of similar boats / year model's that could send you some information. Keep trying.
