A friend is trying to locate the AP drive unit on his Whitlock steering system on his 450. Looking at the diagram, it appears the most likely place is the gear reduction unit. He has been eyeballed the system and saw nothing obvious. Any answers? (B&G AP)

Hi,
It’s tied into the gear box that drives the quadrant
It’s either bolted directly on, or there’s a small chain drive on some sprockets.
On the 49/50, it’s bolted right onto the reduction unit. Lovely piece of engineering, but huge money. The motor is about $3k. It typically never fails, unless you abuse it.

Thanks, Art. That's where we figured it might be.
