This is my first post so please excuse my awkwardness. I have a problem with Hunter using dry-clean only fabric in a sailboat. I would like to change the material to an ultra leather for easier maintenance and better appearance. Has anyone ever gone through this process on a 410 and if so how much material did they use. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You

Erich, I am in the process of having new cushions made for my 34 using Ultrasuede material..Kind of normal sizes, so may give you some numbers in the ballpark. I am having 8 cushions built, 4 bottoms and 4 backs for a settee and a side bench/bunk. Two of the bottoms are about 50" by 24", the backs are 14" tall and 50" The bench/bunk bottoms are 39" by 33" and 39" by 26", tapering to 20".. The 2 backs for these are 38 by 13 tall each.. Those 8 cushions required 10 yards of material .. The new backs/bottoms (the part that touches the boat will be a mesh) ..

Eric,

I had the upholstery on my 01, 420 redone last Fall.
After checking online sources, and local upholstery shops, who wanted several thousand dollars, I got in touch w/ a local lady (recommended by a friend) who does upholstery, etc. in her home.
She came to boat, measured, and we then went to a local upholstery shop
( that she uses frequently) to pick out fabric.
There are hundreds of different fabrics; so your preference and your wallet will dictate your selection.
We bought enough yards for the job, plus 3-4 extra yards to keep for future repair or replacement of those cushion(s) which are subject to most wear.
She did great work, and the total of materials and labor ended up being less than half the lowest prior quote.
So ... my suggestion is ... don't worry about trying to figure your yardage or fabric type, just find a local seamstress, let her measure ... and help you w/ fabric selection. You'll get a great job, support someone who really needs the work, get just what YOU want, and get it for far less than any other way.

And ... she thur-in a few, matching, throw pillows, just to say "thanks for the work"... :)

Re doing our cushions is on the list but will have to wait another year. One tihing to consider is replacing with the as-is or changing the backs to a one piece in place of the two back cushion design. I have seen the one piece replacement and it works pretty well.
