Pretty amazing stuff. This dude completely circumnavigated the Gulf of Mexico (with a side trip to Belize!) in a Catalina 22. Some of the audio is obliterated by wind noise, unfortunately; I wish I could have heard everything that was said. Or who the guy even is, for that matter.

That's pretty damn impressive. In ANY boat.

I personally think a smaller boat with a lifting keel would be ideal for that kind of job. The only thing I would not like would be the outboard.

well now I don't feel nearly as impressive I was gonna post that yesterday I broke 1000 miles since I moved to the keys and haven't gone anywhere hehe.

Found it on my chartplotter where it says total miles since I got it and I got it right after moving here.

But doing a circumnav would be way cooler obviously.

For some interesting reading, search on Shane St. Clair, he sailed a Capri-18 from Oxnard, CA to Hawaii. He also sailed the 5000 mile "Great Loop" route in a 21' Sea Pearl, and I don't believe he had an outboard. Another great story is Robert Crawford's book "Black Feathers", his story of doing the single handed trans-pac in a Cal-20 a few years ago. Another interesting story is Dave Chamberlain from here in San Diego. Back in 1992, Dave sailed from Chula Vista to Hawaii in a 20' Vivacity with his friend from the seminary; Interesting web site:

We plan on doing some portions of the loop after I retire, but I envy those who make the whole trip!

Yes. and there are lots of examples where the travelers note that coming into a new port in a small sailboat gets a much more welcoming greeting from locals than they would have gotten in a big yacht. Often docking is free, as are dock-side services. Show up in your $100k+ 36 footer and you need to have your credit card in your hand as you dock.
