I just bought a Honda 15 hp 4 stroke & it fits fine. Only problem is that it won't tilt up cuz there's no room to spare. I have jeeeeeest enough room to get the cover off to check the oil.LaDonna
Hi LaDonna,I'm in the market for a new outboard myself....have been told I couldn't go any larger than a 9.9hp. I trust your judgment...am guessing the weight of your 15 hp Honda must be about the same as a 9.9? Are you happy with it? Any other advice is welcome as well. Thanks!
We've only had our 27' for 45 days, was a fantastic deal, however, we need to purchase the OB.. We have been told anything over 9.9hp is a waste of money and gas...?? Would appreciate any pointers!!
Sorry for the delay in responding to you John - I didn't see your post. I ONLY got the 15 hp because I was doing a trade with the guy that saved me about $800 (than if I had gone with a 9.9).Go with the 9.9. The 15 & 9.9 are the same motor, the 15 is just tuned differently so there is no weight difference. Take a 9.9 to the right mechanic & he can turn it into a 15. But you really don't need one for a 27. I sure don't. I would have been perfectly happy with a 9.9 but it just happened the deal worked out this way. The motor fits perfectly in the "hole" but I can't lift it out of the water. Checking the oil is a challenge but not impossible and the cockpit controls are to die for! LaDonna
This is more for Debbie's posting from 10/1/2000. I have a '93 Yamaha 9.9 long shaft that works great, but mine's mounted on an adjustable Garelick bracket on the transom (not in the well). I can't tell you what will work best through the transom.
