I have a 26.5 hunter on a lake with unreliable wind which causes me to have to motor often. I have a 2 stroke 9.9 tohatsu which runs great but is a bit noisy. Is there enough difference in noise and fuel consumption to consider a 4 stroke?

IMHO yes. My lake is in a Federal National Park and they banned all 2 stroke engines. Reason, too much noise pollution for wildlife & people and they cause much more fuel & oil pollution in the water. The difference I could see immediately around the boat launch area. I switched and I'm happy, and it does give better fuel economy. If you sail then you should be concerned about water and noise polution, at least I hope so.
I have an Evinrude 6hp 2 stroke on my Mac26s and a Honda 15hp, electric and manual start, four stroke on my H260 with charging.
The nosie level is at least half of the two stroke, the gas consumtion is about half as well. There is a lot less exhaust order with the four stroke.
Now having said that I may disquialify the comparison because the 15hp is overpowered for the H260 I rarely have it over 1/2 throttle excpet when I want to run it hard to clean it out so that may not be a fair comparison. In some ways the 15hp works better for those same reasons (lower RPMs. less noise etc.)
The electric start makes the admiral more comfortable and I like the 6 amp alternator.
