I am saling very often alone or with my wife. My boat is a Hunter 310. I am planning to make a 3rd reef on my mail sail. Already ask to Hunter in the UK and they said that never been done before. Plse can same one help me in this respect with their experience. Tks/Regards/José

We added a third reef to our Hunter 34. Should have been added at the factory since the boat is so sensitive to any kind of blow.

Bruce, how do you rig it?
We added one too, about 15 years ago and never used it. When we got to the second reef and needed more, it was easy to just drop it. Besides, that third reef would have needed manual reeving at the worst possible time. Much safer to just drop it. What's your solution?

Sail with Jib Only
If there is enough wind for even a second reef, we sail with the jib only. We make 30 percent of true wind speed under jib on our 460. Boat balances fine on jib only upwind or reaching.
