I have replaced the original Yanmar 3QM30 with a new Nanni diesel. So far very impressed with new engine. I do have the old engine available for parts or I will rebuild it if someone can point me toward a head as I suspect the original is cracked, even though it runs very very well until put under pressure.

Anyone have any leads?

Another "QM" bites the dust!

Mine sold pretty quickly on E-Bay albeit not for very much money. Still, after four years it was good to get it out of my garage. I stipulated that it had to be picked up. Amazingly it sold to a guy from Costa Rica. He flew to Ohio, crated it himself, took it to a trucking company, and had it shipped.

They are really good motors, just a little too heavy for the horsepower made. A new head and that motor could do another 1000 hours.

Mine's still going

and (touch wood) it will keep going. The QM series were designed to be raw water cooled - i.e. no heat exchanger (although I believe that most Hunters had an exchanger fitted by the factory) - which is why they are so heavy...and probably why they have lasted so long. I wish I could buy yours for parts, so that mine could last forever, but I imagine shipping that lump of iron to Nova Scotia would be too expensive.

Shipping 3QM.

Jim, you should check on that shipping cost. I was surprised how reasonable it was to ship mine to Costa Rica. We just contacted a local trucking outfit. They would have taken it simply lag bolted to a couple of 4x6s but the new owner wanted to build a crate.

Is yours still raw-water cooled? My 2QM20 had a fresh-water kit with a heat exchanger and belt-driven pump. The 3QM that I sold did not. After market heat exchangers are available for about $300.(a ludicrous price when you see how they are made). You can do the whole thing for under $600.

My 3QM30

has the heat exchanger and second water pump installed.

I think getting a Japanese diesel across the Canada/USA border would be more hassel than its worth - if it was made in USA, it would be easier because of NAFTA.

Re: My 3QM30

Jim: Send me an offer for the 3QM30 at sandpiper480@yahoo.com. I think that since my boat is stateside right now but that I am Canadian with Cdn registration I should be able to bring it back to Canada by truck. If interested, we can look into the shipping. I may have a line on an economical way.
