I need a replacement raw water (brass) "petcock" which fits on the back of the 3JH2E Yanmar. Yanmar wanted $300 for this $1.50 item. Any ideas where I can get one other than from Yanmar??

Yanmar parts

Dick, You might also try NAPA or similar auto parts store as Yanmars are also used in some agricultural/commercial equipment. I buy my fuel and oil filters and belts there. Paul Bednarzyk S/v Knot Again

Just did this repair

I had to have this same petcock replaced on my 3JH2E this past summer, due to a very slow drip. Lacking the time to do it myself, I had a local Yanmar marine service place do the job. The total bill, labor and petcock, was about $95, most of which of course was labor. The part they used is not the same as the original, but I didn't question it because it does the job and assumed they knew what they were doing since they are a Yanmar dealer. Frankly, the new part looks better designed, but I don't know if it's Yanmar. The place that did it for me is Bayshore Marine in Annapolis. Phone # is 410-263-8370. If you mention my name and the name of my boat, they might be able to look up my job ticket and get you the exact same part. Name of boat is "Hummer." It's a Hunter 37.5, 1995. My e-mail is blmarin@erols.com.

be careful if you do not know what you are doing!

Dick: Be careful if you do not know what your are doing here. Yanmar uses BPT fittings and not SAE stuff. You sure as hell do not want to strip anything here. I would say that Brian's solution sounds like a bargin. They do it all for under $100 (that is only 1/10 of a boat unit).
