I just finished installing an Electromaax 140 amp alternator, with their 1" belt kit and Sterling external regulator. I bought it from them as one of their "cruisers package" so saved a few dollars on the individual component purchase price.

The new pulleys went on quite easy, the crankshaft pulley fits right over the original. The fresh water pump pulley replaces the original, only 4 bolts. The alternator had the new pulley installed at the factory. The pulleys are nicely machined aluminum and black anodized.

They supply everything except the wrenches.

I had to move my orange hot air exhaust pipe and coolant reservoir to allow room for the Sterling external regulator.

Electromaax had all the wires on the alternator and regulator labeled for easy hook up. They even have a Yanmar connector installed in the harness.

And includes the temperature sensors for the alternator and battery.

I changed the alternator output wire to a #2 and ran it direct to the house bank (through a Bluesea 160 Amp fuse) and added a #2 ground wire from the alternator frame to the battery ground (after the shunt for the Victron battery monitor).

So far very pleased with the setup, next we need some solar panels !

Very nice, fits like it's made for it.

I've got to ask about the orange hose at the rear of the engine. Is that an exhaust hose for supplying cool air to the engine ? If so, what is the purpose of the screen on the inlet to the hose.

I'm presently installing an exhaust hose into my engine compartment because it's as compact as a Nike shoe box and gets up to 150 deg. when running.

Ralph, it is the factory bilge blower hose. The previous owner redirected it up to the position shown in the photo. There is also grey a "fresh air" supply hose that was originally attached to the engine air intake, you can just see it in the photograph on the right side of the engine.

I was told the orange blower hose was moved from the bilge to this position to remove heat from the engine compartment after a day of motoring. The heat from the engine would radiate out into the cabin after stopping in an anchorage, so they would run the bilge blower to cool things down.

We use the boat in Florida in the winter only so have not noticed this problem. The screen was there when we bought the boat, they may have had a problem with something crawling in through that hose and so put a screen on it.

Looks great. I have the same engine on our B361. Quick question, how much horsepower is being lost if any? Is there a noticeable difference? I have the original 60amp Hitachi alternator with internal regulator and we're thinking of upgrading, mainly for increased battery charging while on the hook for extended weekends.

If you neglect the inefficiency of the alternator, it works out to a bit over 2 horsepower (at full output) so not enough for me to be concerned about it. It can bring the bank back up quickly so the alternator will not be producing full out for all that long.
