I have a couple of questions about my 1990 vision 32.
  1. Does the 3GM30F have a heat exchanger zinc and if so where is it?
  2. Was out doing a short motor and overheated my engine. The light came on and the engine shut off on its own. I waited about two hours until cool and started it back with no problems but it will still overheat. I will be checking the thermostat from sticking this week. The impellor was OK.
  3. I have a very foul oder coming from my hot water side of my faucets. It does not come from the cold water side so it leads me to think the problem is coming from the electric water heater. I later determined after i flushed my tank that the smell will only come back when the electric water heater is on. I believe I need to change the anode in the heater. Does anyone know where it is on the water heater? I do not see where it could be. It is the 6 gallon EHM6-5M.

1. I guess it does not have a zinc. Correct?
2. Water flow at the exhaust was good. I am going to try a new thermostat and see what happens. What do you think?
3. It is a 6 gallon 1500 watt, EHM6-5M serial number 137095. Real foul oder at the hot water side of the two faucets. The cold water side is OK. I looked at the water heater and did not see any thing that could resemble an anode. Any thoughts?

There is some kind of mold or fungus growing in the heater and/or the hot water lines coming off the heater. Add a gallon of bleach to the water supply and flush it through the heater till the tank is empty. Then run a few gallons of fresh water to see if it has cleared. Bleach will kill live mold but will not affect mold spores. If it returns you will need to repeat with a mold spore killing agent.
In future you should add a small amount of bleach to each tank of fresh water and flush the tank routinely. If you drink the water you can add a water filter to the sink faucet.
