3GM Engine shudders

While trying to back into my slip this weekend on my new Catalina 320 I gave short bursts of power in reverse. Each time I backed it down, after it went to idle RPM, it seemed to pickup a few RPM and shake and shudder noticeably. Any body have any info on whether this is acceptable or normal? I have just taken delivery of this boat 2 weeks ago and the dealer is working on a few other punchlist items at this time.Bill

3GM shudder

I have experienced that same shudder on boats with 3GM engines prior to delivery. By bringing up the idle RPM level the problem has been solved. I'm no diesel mechanic, but the idle setting may be the culprit. Check the manual or with a mechanic to see what the recommended setting is for that engine.Best of luck,Trevor
