Max Prop

For our 376 we went with a Maxprop. I spent quite a bit of time reading all the comments in the archives, one various web sites, etc... Then wanted an Autoprop for it's motor sailing benifits. However, several users reported that the autoprop might strike the strut supporting the shaft. There were conflicting reports on the accuracy of this concern, however I went with the Maxprop Classic 3 blade to be safe. I am very pleased with the results of the maxprop. Vibration was reduced, performance increased, and we back like a dream. Frequently we get comments from our dock mates on how well the boat handles at the dock. My wife says it is the prop, I think the years of driving Navy ships has something to do with it:) Enjoy, Scott

3 bladed prop can be installed in the water by a diver, you can change pitch in the water (max prop you have to haul) and in my opinion a better aerodynamic shape than the flat bladed max prop. That should translate to better motoring. My 2 cents.

Campbell Sailor

I changed to a three blade Campbell Sailor prop a few years ago. The have much less drag than a conventional fixed 3 blade prop. My 37 which is the equivalent to your 38 went from a 2 blade 17" to a 3 blade 15" prop. Much less vibration and very little prop walk. Also much cheaper than a Max or Auto Prop. The going rate is about $402.20 for the 15" prop. Shipping from British Columbia with customs was not that pricey. My present boat a 420 has a Max Prop and it also can't be beat. But is much more expensive. Bill web: http://www.vicprop.com/sailor.htm

Autoprop

We installed an Autoprop in our H410 two seasons ago and we like it very much, it is a fine piece of engeneering. The boat motoring changed a lot from the original two blade prop. Ours came straight from the factory without giving any specifications (but the boat model)and it fitted like a glove. That is our experience. Good luck. Rafael Perez
