Sure they do!

everyone who does seems to be happy, they win alot. Dennis velenga has a sail loft in tampa raced his for many years with great success as has Blaise Pearson. Both boat have removed the cutter rig and race as sloops in the cruising division. Blaise has a very impressive race history including local as well as national and international events. He really knows how to get a 37c to scoot. I will be setting mine up to do some arround the marks stuff later this year. Both of these boats are from the west coast of florida. Not known for heavy air.

Racing 37C as sloop

Under what provision of PHRF is this modified boat rated? It seems to me that if the rating is for a cutter rig, modifying it into a single-headsail boat is sort of... cheating. Any insights? (BTW it seems racing a cutter takes both derring-do and solid sailing chops... definitely a cooler way to go. The guy that can sail a cutter to hang with the sloops is really doing something. Not like it's a slow boat to start with!) JC 2

37c sweet boat

a guy i know wants to sell me his. it needs a lot. it only has two sails and the inside is trashed. the bilge was full of water and i don't think the pumps work. all the cushions are bad. the portlites are dark, the engine is not seized but doesn't run. the rigging is all tangled up. and it needs some teak inside. still the price is workable. anybody want a good deal on a real nice 27? I'm going to make a thourough list tommorrow and decide if i'm going to buy it, anybody had one like that and refitted it?

Robby's deal.

Just remember that you can buy an H37C in pretty good condition for $30,000. So a boat in that condition would have to be really cheap. And I would want to know that there was nothing major with the engine. I bought a decent H37C and easily have $15K in it including new sails, A/C, radar, new refrigeration, and ten new bronze portlights. And that is not counting labor(all mine). I also never understood how some of the guys managed to do so many time-consuming upgrades. I only wanted to be sailing. Now that I am retired I can see that I might get some things done. But the kind of repairs you are looking at are going to take a lot of time. If, like me, you enjoy the work then this is a non-issue. Best of luck with your decision.

somebody beat me to it

me and dad went up today and took my boat out. it was an awesome day. blue skys over my head. dad travels the world and every time i see him i wonder if its the last time. 37 cutter, the guy sold it in 2 days. 13500. patiance in boat buying. it took a year to get this boat i have now. when you have a company with the kinds of tools i have; fixing anything ain't no problem, just don't excede your limitations. a big clue, if it costs more to fix than its worth don't mess with it. when you miss the deal be glad. it probably would give you a head ache anyway.
