Any 37c owners out there have folding props? Would appreciate info as to what might work well in replacing the 15x16 fixed two-blade on my '79 37c. Engine is a Yanmar 3QM30. Thanks.

Have a Flex-O-Fold.

Click on the link below. Not sure I could recommend the two-blade for tough ocean going, no experience there. But on my H37C with the 2QM20 it handles Lake Erie well enough. Wish I had some experience with a 3-blade so I could note the difference. My boat backs and stops fine but completely lacks steerage. But I am in a river with current and the winds either straight up or straight down. My criteria were: 1) cost, 2) sailing performance, and 3) backing. Two out of three ain't bad! :) The prop is very rugged, installed like a breeze, and the company owner seemed knowledgeable.

Deep Propets

I have the same engine-prop configuration as you, Walt, and looked longingly at the Maxi-prop literature, and the other folding/feathering props out there, but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on something not essential. The two-blade pushes me around fine and doesn't produce noticable drag. I'd swap for better reverse, but there seems to be enough bite there, too, when the prop isn't fouled with weeds. Some form of weed cutter is definately in the works for next season. I guess we'd all like to be able to stop on a dime and burn rubber getting away from the dock, but it is a big heavy boat with a small (old)engine and transmission. Three blades seems a good pick for the extreme conditions that we may encounter, but for the vast majority of the time when the engine is on, two seems adequate for me. Regards to all. Gary
