I have a 1998 Hunter 376. I am looking to add a new anchor and chain set up but before I move forward I need to find out about the windless for the 376. I know the drop in this very shallow anchor locker is a problem. I have seen the improvements made by some where they get the pipe that feeds to the lower part below the v-berth. Why Hunter did not just extend the mold down to that area who knows. Anyway I understand there is a modified windless that several Hunter 376's have installed. I have the name of the guy who has knows about it. I sending him a message but I wanted to see if anyone has installed a windless. If the windless that was installed was the modified one. I think the modification is it sends the chain back out in the well not down a pipe. I have tried to upload a photo of my anchor well.

The area you refer too is not the chain locker, that area is only where the windless is mounted. The chain locker is located in the bow under the V birth you need a tube to connect the windless to the locker, this is where the chain will ride. .

Jwieneck. I own a 1998 H376. I did the Hawspipe modification couple yrs ago using a 3-4" white plastic pipe. Cut a 4" hole in the forepeak of the V-berth to direct the chain down into the middle of the locker. Put a matching fabric cover over the pipe. Now raising and lowering the anchor (150' chain) is a snap. Before this modification, someone would have to go below and pull the chain down from the windlass to keep it from bunching up. It WAS a real pain.

I mounted an oak board horizontally with epoxy at the aft end of the chain locker. Mounted a windlass on that. The chain falls into the deck chain locker. Has worked well for many years. No need to cut and run a pipe into the v-berth. I think I posted on this with pictures a few years ago.

I am wondering if anyone can take a picture of the windless. I need to see where you placed it and where the motor went. I thinking again about the pipe but still not sure where to place the windless. Picture would really help
