Hi all: My old 376, and new 386 both have the same problem during winter storage. There is a bathtub effect at the base of the mast where the water pools, then freezes, thaws, freezes, etc. Each year I try to tilt the boat either fore or aft so that that the water runs off, but, no luck. Additionally, the endless loop furling line stays on the boat, and gets frozen in this solid block of ice. Anyone have any idea as to any detrimental effect this may have on the mast step, the line, or the hull in that area? The ice can actually be over 1 inch thick underneath the sea hood where the lines are run, and I am concerned about the expansion as the water freezes, particularly where some water may seep under the mast step. Ice Dams
I dont have this problem in San Diego, but have you considered one of those electric mats they use on roofs to prevent ice dams? I'm sure they use little power. Good luck, Bob

Cover the boat
It sounds like you should, somehow, cover the boat to prevent the water from accumulating. The continuous loop can be detached from the stanchions, coiled and brought forward to the anchor locker for storage.
