Check the thread in the Related Link. At some point I think that Hunter switched from the Hyde Streamstay One(my '79) to CDI. But I thought the '82 was still the Hyde: http://www.rigrite.com/furling/hyde/hyde.html By the way, my Hyde still works well. Then again I am in fresh water and I keep the bearings well lubricated.

mines an 85
Ive got cdi and its not very good, hard to use and strange in all its design. no bearings, turns hard, internal halyard system incorporated in the unit on one, and a latch at the top of the other one that holds the sail up. if you want to lower the inside sail you have to run up a messenger to trip the lever. some times it trips ususally it does not. so the sail wont come down unless you got up to trip it.

CDI
My '81 37C had (past tense) a CDI (see link). Hurricane Katrina and 25 years of other environmental abuse has now sent that RF to the dumpster. I'm currently shopping for a replacement. The new CDI furlers are an improved design over the old ones, but still not top-of-the line from what I have read. "You get what you pay for."

CDI on a 1982
I have an 37C 1982 vintage. I have a hard to work CDI furler. Four years ago when I purchased Fat Tuesday I redid all the rigging and put in new nylon bushings, and it is still a tough pull to furl the head sail. Maybe when money is in greater supply I will replace the CDI with something and put the CDI on the staysail. But that is in the future. Good luck. Joel
