Does anyone know about how much range a 361 has with the Yanmar 27 and 20 gallons of fuel?

1/3 gal per hour

That is approximately what I get on my 361 with the same engine. So for the 20 gal you should make aprox. 60 hours or aprox 360nm. Many factors come into play but I figure on the 1/3 gallon/hour.

At what RPM?

Just curious - What RPM do you typically cruise at? 3000? Something less?

Don't run your fuel tank too low

On diesel engines, it is not a good idea to run them too low. Check the manual for this information. In rough seas, you can loose prime which means you are screwed. At least that is the case in my 310 where the fuel tank is located under the starboard salon seat.

Kevin, at what boat speed do you get that?

In my 361 I get no more than 2 hours per gallon when I run the engine at 2400 (making 6+ knots). Thus, at that speed my boat with 20 gallons has a range of 240 miles. In our return from Bermuda this past July, there was very low wind and we carried 20 gallons of extra fuel on deck. In spite of running the engine at <2000 we had to stop in Nantucket with 1 gallon left !!!. I estimated we made about 3 hours per gallon at that low RPM’s and motorsailing when we could.

Tank Capacity

The tank in our 361,(Eos,hull#003), is marked 90 litres so it actually holds 23.7 gallons. Have not ever got close to empty so not sure how much of that would be ultimately useable. It's a French boat, do not know if they used different tanks from SC, but we have found that they sure used different sizes and designs on a lot of other stuff. We get 2 hrs per gallon at 2100 rpm, 7.2 kts per the GPS, with an autoprop.

My gph is less

On a recent trip in my Oceanis 321 (which has the same Yanmar engine) to Catalina from San Diego with the wind on the nose motoring into it at 2900 rpm's, I used 2/3 gph. I have a two blade Flexofold prop which pushes the boat about 6.7 knots per hour. The range lengthens if I slow down but Yanmar indicates cruising about 90% of max. rpm so that the engine is not adversely affected by running too slow.
