I'm having faulty readings on my diesel gauge - filled up yesterday and read 0. Tried to calibrate and it won't. Reads ok on waste and water. Looked up the archives and saw that Ivan Beckley had same problem, but there was not a solution. Anyone had this and what is the fix? Thanks for your help!

IMHO, The Best Solution...

...is to maintain an engine log and calculate your usage in gallons per hour (wether your guage works, or not). This is a more accurate way than relying on a notorious guage which never seems to be accurate. Once determined, then you will have a very accurate determination as to how much fuel has been used since you last purchased your fuel. On my 3HM35F, I know that I use about a 1/2 gallon per hour in all motor-running conditions. I also have a poly fuel tank that I can visually check with a flash light. The guage on the tank still works, but I have never relied on it for accuracy (unless filled up) in having the boat for 10 seasons.

Agree with logs

Paul - I keep meticulous logs and agree with you - my logs indicated 24.5 gallons used and I filled with 25 gallons yesterday. I don't like looking at a gauge that says empty when full, and I don't like broken stuff! That said, and knowing it isn't that accurate, I still want it to work as accurately as possible.

My 356 gauge doesn't work either

Jerry , I also have a 2002 356 and my Snake River gauge has never worked properly ...not even in the ballpark...I have tried to calibrate but to no avail...would love to know how to fix it.

snake river problems

Jerry, we had the same problems with our snake river system, Hunter sent us a new display head and it's worked fine ever since. Howver, like Paul said, I use the log and a check of the tank with a light to verify my actual fuel state

troubleshooting fuel sensor

Check out the Snake River site and read the procedure outlined in this document. Should be able to quickly tell whether the problem is in the module, wiring or sensor.

Flashlight

On my 356 I had the sensor changed twice under warranty but never had any luck. Finally took the flashlight approach. Lift the mattress, open the access panel, put a flashlight on top and view the level. Yes the tank is an irregular shape so you have to note the level, then add fuel to see and see how you take. You will get a feel after doing this a few times. Not the best solution but it works. My 3GM30 used about .7 gals per hr.
