side rails and rear rail.

I would suggest a rear hand rail and side hand rails too. Have the top made from Sunbrella Plus (vinyl coating on the underside). Depending on the height of your dodger, you may want to have a connector piece made to connect your dodger/bimini. We had our windows made of Lexan. Only time will tell if this was a good move, but they do not wrinkle like vinyl.

356 Dodger

Many of the mid to large size Hunters around here have a dodger made by Crammer Canvas in Rhode Island. We had one made for our 356 and it matched up very well with the Hunter Bimini. The Dodger is tall and looks very nice. I'll try to post a picture in the next day or two

custom fit

be at the boat when the dodger is measured. my wife and i both stood and sat at the wheel as the maker (stitcher? dodgerizer?) tried different heights for us. good thing, because the height we first thought would be just right was directly in my line of sight from the helm, and i would have had years of cricks in the neck from trying to look under and over at the same time. we set it up so i can look over and my wife looks under/through the top of the dodger. that also left a nice little gap between the dodger and the bimini, similar to what's shown in the foto you attached. in fair weather, that provides very nice ventilation. for wet days, we have a little canvas piece that zips between and gives us a full awning effect. the guy who made the dodger took the bimini with him to add the zippers, etc. no argument with the other ideas offered.

More Advice

I have time yet before our new boat comes from hunter to the dealer and have the meeting with the canvas shop for dodger, connector, bimni and any custom work we may want. I would love to see any photo's of what they did to their 356-36 thanks again for your help.

no difference for vinyl or lexan

Doug: Our canvas maker did not charge anything extra for the Lexan. The price for a complete dodger with window covers, frame, rear and size rails, sunbrella plus for the top piece and lexan windows ($3450). They also had to make a trick piece for the cross-over traveler lines that are on our Hunter Vision 36. This also included a site visit to our harbor for the design elements. We had to take out boat to their dock for the work. It was not cheap but we are extremely happy with the final product.

Your dodger looks to be very high same as bimni,I like that I was always hitting my head on the frame dodger and I am 5'6" what is the hight,is it easy to look through the dodger when sailing or motoring,I also think I like the sides of the dodger to roll up for the hot weather in florida.

Seadaddler - check out the vis from this movie

I had mine made high so I can see out and avoid hitting my head. My center section rolls up with the two forward both fixed. The next panel down the side is also fixed. From there, The next one rolls up and I leave it on all year. Unless it is raining, it stays up. When raining, it offers a lot of side protection. The remainder of the enclosure has panels in all but one of the panels that unzip and roll up. I remove the enclousure in May and put back on mid-october. I am attaching a movie that shows what it looks like from the cockpit. I have a slightly dipping front section from the arch. The height is great and there is no problem with seeing or hitting your head. Wind resistance is not much more than with a shorter version with a clear bimini to dodger connecctor. My friends that have the short versions are always hitting their head when going down below. By the way, I am 5-8, but have had many 6 footers on board with no head hitting.

Seadaddler - My vis is very good

My bimini slopes slightly forward, but is almost the same height as the arch. It works very well and plenty of headroom for 6 footers. Many of my friends have short dodgers with clear connectors to the bimini and they are constantly hitting their heads when going below. Not a problem with my setup. Looks like it creates a lot of wind resistance, but actually not much more than the short ones with sloping connections to bimini. All my panels can zip out fully if I want them out, but they stay in year round. The center panel rolls up and it is up in hot weather unless raining. My first side panels are fixed, but the next panel rolls up. It is actually part of the rear enclosure, but I leave them on all year for protection from blowing rain. Works very well.
