Are you dealing with strong currents or winds? That boat turns in its own length and backs as well as it goes forward, so I'm a bit curious why you'd feel the need for a thruster on a boat that size.

Bow thrusters are used to move large bulky vessels more easily in tight quarters. Most sailboats are very maneuverable but do need to be controlled with a modicum of understanding of the vessels characteristics. Practice in close quarters maneuvering is every bit as important as skill under sailing conditions. It would be very beneficial to brush up on these skills to make docking a more manageable task. You may think about taking a course in boat handling skills to help with this and then spend a little time practicing.

A bow thruster is a pretty hefty expense for such a small boat. I agree with the previous posts to practice. You'll find out how easily these boats maneuver when they do what you want them to. My old man can do a 180 in a 75 ft harbor with a flowing tide and crosswind to back into a slip with his 58 footer in the dark- all because its just repetition and practice..

Practice, practice, practice. You've gotta learn how your boat handles and read the wind and current conditions prior to each docking maneuver. In difficult situations the use of spring lines will help a great deal. Sometimes (if possible) an opposite approach to your slip can be a benifit. We've all be through this!! Good luck.
