Hello all, we have recently purchased a 1983 Hunter 34 and are new to sailing. One of the things that needs to be replaced are the fixed windows on our beauty. Does anyone know of a place to get replacement plexiglass for these windows or is this something that has to be custom ordered? Any advice is much appreciated.

Wait

Why do they need replacing?? Are the broken or just cloudy? If they are crazed and cloudy polish them with yacht bright fine polish. I too bought a 84 31 could not see out of the fixed windows and was going to replace them. A friend said try this "the guy at the store said it would work" besides he wanted me to try it just in case it didn't work. Well it did, now I saved money and they look great. I also used it on my hatches and port lights worked real well. Keith

Crazed and confused

After about 8 years I'm finding my Mark Plastics replacement fixed ports for the H34 are beginning to craze. Except for one peculiar thing.... About 2 years ago I spilled acetone on deck which ran down one of the fixed ports. After cleaning it all up and kicking myself in the arse I noticed the acetone had hazed the area were it ran down the port. Using this Buff Magic polish it came right back and is now as clear as the rest of the ports, except for one thing. This is now the only area I have almost NO crazing. I can only conclude the acetone had some effect on the crazing. I know this sounds bazare but I'm considering applying acetone to one full port and see if it gets the same result (they'll need to be replaced soon anyway so what do I have to lose?) Am I sniffing too much acetone here or could I be on to something? Howabout you chemical engineers...

Keith, a 'result' report;

That cleaning compound arrived yesterday and I used it on three ports with a southern exposure that have been not liking our northwest weather. I removed each, washed and power buffed with a corded drill. Took 2 minutes each. If I said they were now perfect, no one here would believe me. What else is new? They are all perfect again! Best stuff I've used. The hatch windows are next as soon as it stops raining. I figure end of July. I left the drill aboard.
