A passenger on our boat last summer was horrified to discover that we have no oil pressure alarm that sounds when the key is turned on. As long as we have owned the boat it has never had one, at least not that worked. At the end of the season, I pulled the cover off the back of the instrument panel where I thought I might find it, but did not see an alarm there. Can anyone tell me where theirs is located so that I can continue my quest? Ours is an '83 with a Universal M25.

Thanks!

Karma is a 1981 34 footer with a Universal 5424 and does not have an audible alarm either. Can't tell if it had one and was removed or never had one. It's easy to retrofit an audible alarm to the circuit, but I haven't done so.

I did have the light come on during a return to port. I had oil pressure, it turned out that the sender had failed.

The O'day 35 has the same engine and we don't have an alarm either. We do have the oil pressure light as well, and it has worked in the past. Just like Scott, it was the sending unit.

Universal made a very basic engine panel and for more money panels with optional equipment. My panel has a temperature gauge, a glow plug switch, an ammeter, a starter switch, and a key switch. There is also a very small red light that comes on when the key is activated.
You can get a panel with alarms and tachometer and all kinds of goodies if you want to spend the money. I think torresen has them on their web site.

Hello,

As others have written, most 34 / 35 models did not come with an oil pressure alarm. You can add one if you like. However, I don't know of anyone who had a problem with the engine and the oil pressure alarm helped. Maybe there are people out there who have benefited from the oil pressure alarm. If so, please add your comments. Personally, I haven't lost sleep over not having the alarm.

Jibes and all, that red light is the oil pressure light. When my oil pressure sending unit failed, that light came on and stayed on.
