Has anyone installed or devised a shower sump for the 33.5 so the gray water doesn't drain into the bilge? I'm looking for solutions to this problem. I even thought of creating a "Shower Dam" in the forward bilge compartment isolating the gray water to this section only. With a height of only 5-6 inches it would still allow bilge water (if flooded) to drain over above the dam. My boat stays dry year round and would only anticapte water in the bilge if something broke. The water level would need to reach a height of 6" in the bilge before being pumped out. I know this isn't the best but it appears to be safe. Please see attached html design. Thanks in advance. PS I don't think there's enough room in the bilge to fit a Rule Shower Sump. Robert

We have one

Robert, We have one in our 1993 H33.5 though it needs to be modified. The PO installed a standard sump box in the bilge area just aft of the head. It is plumbed to the main bilge drain line. Using back flow prevention valves the system worked just Ok. The back flow valve seem to foul often. This spring I'm going to replumb the drain line more directly overboard. I'll be at the lake this weekend and take a couple of pictures of the main installation if you need them. Jeff

Instead

...of pumping the shower bilge overboard, which is illegal, pump it directly to your holding tank. To be honest, I enjoy the shower drain going into the bilge. Shampoo and soap in the bilge leaves a really nice smell in the boat.

Shower water isn't illegal?

except in some specific "no gray water" locations, mostly lakes.

All discharge...

...is illegal here! I would check your area before you make any more discharges. But regardless of the legality, it's sure environmentally bad to do. Better to use the holding tank and have it pumped at your local pump out. In our harbor, we have a roving pump out boat that will come pump your holding tank whenever you call him, 24/7.

All Grey Water?

Alan, so all your grey water goes to the holding tank. Shower and sinks. With three of us aboard using the head and taking navy showers, we would be pumping out once maybe twice a day if that were the case. Luckly our lake has no rule prohibiting it. Jeff

Alan, unless you're on Lake George...

You can legally discharge gray water directly overboard. Lake George is only body of water in the whole state of NY where the discharge of gray water ("galley, bath and shower water") is prohibited. "No discharge" laws only apply to toilet waste in all coastal waters, and all other inland waters except for some lakes in VT and NH, and some very small--and well marked--areas of the FL Keys National Marine Sanctuary where even the discharge of bilge water is prohibited. But since you can't anchor in that part of the FKNMS either, it's not much of a problem.
