I am buying a 1992 33.5 SLOOP. It has a 11'9" Beam instead that the normal 10'10". It is quite a bit cheaper than the regular 33.5's offered in Yatchworld.com. I have searched the archives looking for a specific reference to the Sloop at no avail. Are there any known disadvantages or problems with this boat that would explain the diference in price? Any information on this specific model (33.5 sloop) would be sincerely appreciated.

Go to the tabs on top of the home page. Go to The Boats. Select 33.5. Go to Specifications. (The specificatiions are scrambled and in the wrong columns, but don't let that throw you.) (Phil H. take note.)Also, read the owner reviews and check the site archives for information. I'm sure there is a ton of it there. By definition, a SLOOP is a single-masted boat with a mailsail and a jib. H335 have the same 10+ something beam measurement. But in 1994, the H336 beam increased to 11.8 feet. My guess is there's a mis-print on your 33.5 SLOOP specifications.

Hunter 335
Hi Alejandro, I own a 1992 Hunter 335. My spec sheet is on the boat, but my recollection is that the beam is 11 feet 6 inches, though I could be off a couple of inches. Rest assured that Hunter did not make two models of the Hunter 335 with different beams in that model year. We like our boat very much and use it year around for day sailing and coastal cruising. I single hand it a lot. My wife and I have cruised on it for trips up to three weeks in length. We have taken other couples out for weekends. It has worked very well for all of these uses. I don't consider it a true blue water boat and would not sail it to Hawaii or the Sea of Cortez or to the South Pacific. With respect to price, Hunters tend to be cost effective in comparison to many other makes of boat of comparable size. Depending on condition and equipment, a 1992 335 should probably be priced in the neighborhood of $50,000. If it's appreciably less than that, you may want to be careful of possible problems with that particular boat. As others have suggested, get a good marine survey and make your purchase subject to the results of the survey. You may want to have the engine separately inspected by a qualified diesel mechanic. I was aware of the defenition of a sloop but I was thrown off by wrong information from a friend componded by the fact that the spec sheet for the 33.5 in this site lists a 10'11" beam for the boat. I am buying the boat for 45,000 but will have to replace the refrigeration system as well as the jib furler mechanism (bearings) and a couple other things which will bring the price close to 50,000. The boat was thoroughly surveyed and received high grades so I guess I'm onto a pretty nice deal. Rick, I was glad to hear you have enjoyed the boat. I don't expect to go to Hawaii or the South Pacific either but I do harbor a secret desire to take my wife and two youngsters to Mexico for two or three weeks. We'll see. I can wait. I'm getting a knot in my stomach just thinking about all this! Best to you all.
