Hello everyone. My prop needs to be changed... not sure of the size needed! or does anyone know what size prop would give me a better performance, engine durability..etc. the engine is a volvo MD 11. NOTE: change those zincs, no matter how much you try to avoid the nasty water...

For the proper size prop, take the existing one, or the size of the existing one to a good prop shop. It they know what you currently have, and the RPM range the engine is running they can fix you right up. Many times on here it is not mentioned that a good prop shop can re pitch the existing prop, giving the wanted performance, without near the cost of replacing the prop.

17 X 13 was original size on my boat

My 323 originally had a 17" X 13" three blade fixed which worked fine. Be happy to part with it if you need it. While the performance under power was fine and the fuel economy was great, a fixed 3 blade made me sail about a 1/2 knot slower than my current prop. I now use and am very happy with a feathering three blade that has variably adjustable pitch made by Autostream. Feathers nicely under sail and offers little drag. I now use a bit more fuel(.75Gal/hour versus about .6Gal/hour). Hope this helps, Al scubaseas@aolREMOVE.com
