Hi....I have to replace the plexiglass windows in the head and aft cabin on my 322... does anyboady know what kind of adhesive the factory used to install these.. and how hard it is to get them out.... thanks Cliff

Cliff, Years ago, I had a leak coming in from the windows on my O'Day 222 and I used a silicon caulking. I think that the silicon didn't work out as I had screws that were backing out and getting loose. So I did it over again and used Boat Life Caulking this time. At the time, I used a putty knife to get under the Lexan. I heated it up a little with my blow torch and that seemed to work. I think that Rudy at D&R Marine sells these windows and I'm sure he could tell you for sure what caulking they used at the O'Day factory. He worked there years ago and is quite knowledgeable about O'Days. If you choose to buy Lexan locally and have it cut, you may want to drill the screw holes a fraction larger because of cracking due to temperature changes. I've seen this lens cracking on my friend's O'Day 192 and often wondered why this happened until someone on this forum brought it to everyone's attention last year. The best thing to do is ask about what kind of caulking to use from the supplier. Last year I installed an 8" Beckson Deck Plate on the transom of my boat and used a Polysulfide caulking to seal it. I didn't read the directions and was told that Polysulfide caulking can have an adverse affect on the type of plastic material that Beckson uses on their deck plates, and that they recommend using silicon caulking. So I re-caulked it with silicon. I really don't like using silicon on my boat and prefer to use a polysulfide caulking like 3-M 4000 Adhesive Sealant UV. Here's Rudy's link. Joe
