Yep SAME boat. It was never in Maine the boat was in the Midwest somewhere and lost the keel on a lake. A guy in the club who knew the guy sent those to me..
That boat would make an ideal mobile home, i would live in it, just buy a plot, bed it in some concrete, and you have a home, probably a lot cheaper than a trailer, and a lot better built, put a deck round it, pool in the garden, be the poshest trailer in the neighbour hood, and the only one that didnt have wheels, you could even make it into a meth lab, put the mast up, and have a flag, with "meth is ready" on it, would be great to live in that.
The keel for the 272, 302 and 322 were made by Mar's keels I blelive....the boats are fantastic fun to sail...I don't think the keels just fell off...there was usually a little operator error or playing around....Rudy at D & R Marine in Assonet Massachusetts can fill you in....The brochures & almost everything you need to know can be found on the O'Day website...go to google and type in o'day sailboats. parts, brochures, manuals,

Thanks for all your feedback on this guys. I think I'll pass on it. We have a place in PVR and have been looking for a boat. Saw this one and went and checked it out. Being mechanically inclined and cheap figured i could re-do this back to running order. The keel was the stopping point. Boat originated out of Texas apparently. Not sure how it ended up there. We see lots of boats from all over down there. By the threads that are posted the keel seems the stopping block. Just figured I might be able to get a good deal.
Whuile i'm thinking of it where doea a fellow finds ot a title search online for a boat. I have all the boat and registration info. Just wanted to find out if it's for real. For the next one that is.

Check the state where the boat was last registered. Some law enforcement agency will know how to proceed.
Edit to add: consider the keel as a shelf when the boat is heeled 90 degrees. How would you attach a two ton shelf to a wall knowing that loads can be dropped onto it. The loading is both static and dynamic.

Oh forgot to add. PVR is a very safe place. We've been going many years. Bought a condo. Love it there. We're not out partying or drunk at all hours. Never fealt threatened ever. Love the place, love the people. They'll do anything for you. Going to be moving permanately one day soon. THat's the readson for the boat. Plus I can't sit still, need things to do, things to fix, build etc. No hurray on thre boat. If it takes 2 years to repair, who cares. It's Mexico. No ones in a hurry. No one cares what time it is.
Second PVR. It is a great place. Rented Casa Redondo for a week plus a couple of years ago. I'd go back in a heart beat. Unfortunately the flight is just a bit longer and I have to take a short vacation this year so we are going to Cancun instead. The direct flight from Boston to Cancun on Jet Blue rules!
