Had good luck with my 36
New Year’s day 2000, after toasting the sunrise, we broke up the party and started to head back to our marina. Turning sharply at very low speed, the keel missed the stump and the rudder found it. As I was turning to port when the shaft was bent, I couldn’t center the rudder. I friend with a small whaler towed me back into my slip. (From hard off the starboard bow to counteract the pull to port) After the holiday’s the boat was pulled and the damage assessed. No leaks, just the bent shaft. Finally, the marina people just used a ratcheting winch tied between the keel and the rudder to pull it back into shape. We watched the hull and the shaft from inside while this was done. We would have stopped it if anything looked like going bad. So far, so good!S/V AnodyneCatalina 36’ #34
