Woohoo!
I FINALLY got all the paperwork issues resolved and sent off to DMV
for my registration. Hopefully I'll get the new title and all that
without a hitch. It turns out she's a 1977 model. I'm naming her Gala
which the baby name book says means 'singer' in Swedish.
I just replaced my hatchboards and lazerette covers. I did a shite
job of it with just regular plywood until I can get some marine teak
but at least she won't fill up with rain anymore! Besides I got the
sizes and shapes perfect so when I get the right wood it'll be a
cinch. Trace, cut and bolt. I'll have pics up soon. SHe's getting her
own page on my site shortly.
Today's questions revolve around plumbing. The drainholes in the
lazerettes drain into the cockpit and at the rear of the cockpit are
two holes which have hoses out to two garden hose style seacocks.
I guess these should be closed while underway? Or open to drain out
cockpit water? It looks like she might take on water if they were
open (and the passengers were fat enough!)
Also, the manual bilge pump on the starboard side has a hose to the
bilge and a hose to a T fitting on one of the aforementioned hoses
out the back. The thing is the pump doesn't seem to pump. It looks OK
at a glace but I'm not sure if the seal is good. whether the seacock
is open or closed there's still a hole to the cockpit so the system
is never 'closed'. Hence no vacuum? Anyone have a clue how this is
supposed to work? I can provide pics if this isn't clear.
Thirdly, the marine head is entirely taken apart. No two pieces are
attached and it's a bit of a mystery. I'm sure some more crawling
around in tight spaces will help me figure this all out but some
things come to mind: Where's the holding tank supposed to be? I'm not
even sure it's still in there. I see a fuel fitting but no fitting
for pumping out. Where is that thing? Maybe I just missed it. I'm a
bit too excited to pay proper attention and I'm in the midst of many
repairs large and small. I'm tempted to ditch the whole lot and put
in a porta-potti but if all the pieces are ther it'd be nice to put
it together anyway. Not sure if this job is worth it.
Finally (phew!) has anyone got a picture of how the water tank and
sink are hooked up? All that stuff is in there but the foot pumps
don't work. I assume there's water in the tank but now that I think
about it maybe not. On of the two nozzles is taken out. Why are there
two? Is there supposed to be a sea water and a freshwater pump?
Or is one supposed to be (gasp!) hot water?
I know some of these questions are stupid and I can figure it out
myself but with such a great store house of knowledge here I might as
well save myself some head scratching.
By the way I replaced the bow cleat that Sayler Ed generously sent
me. Thanks Ed. I still owe you a beer.
Wait until I come with the elctrical questions. That whole system is
completely knackered as well.
Cheers!
