311 deep lazarette storage solutions

My 311 has a fantastically huge lazarette on the starboard side that is super useful for storing large items, however, retrieving them is sometimes impossible given it's depth. I have a water heater in the forward portion, along with my three house batteries, charger, etc.

Has anyone come up with creative ways of accessing the lower portion while standing in the cockpit? I am considering brackets and other holders for ropes and such, but the deeper reaches would be great to have more access to in a reasonable way....

The only way to reach some of it is to kneel down in the cockpit and reach way down inside, and if things are rolling at all, you will go in head first!

Tie a piece of small line/string to each item. Make it long enough to reach to top of the lazz, put a tag on it with what it is. Easy to ID and pull out. Just like fishing !

I thought of something like that, but I'd need a lot of lines! Still good idea though for the bucket full of wash junk, etc.

We have a similar lazarette on our Hunter 31. Although new to sailboat ownership, we are formulating all kinds of ideas for storage. We presently have 3 batteries, a hot water heater at the bottom and room to stand beside the batteries when inside. Of course, going inside is a feat in itself! What I would like to do is perhaps get 1 or 2 more batteries and then construct a platform over them of boards that can easily be removed to service batteries etc...But during sailing season, that platform would serve as a good storage space with plenty of room above for storing life jackets, fenders, anything of that nature that is bulky, yet light. And the platform would raise it enough that they can more easily be reached from the cockpit.

One thing I did was hang a net hammock inside and toward the top.
I put my spare dock lines in it because they were always the firs things to find their way to the bottom. Extra winch handles go in the net. Fenders with lines attached store vertuically all they way down to the bilge.
Cleaning supplies in one plastic bucket, nest inside a second bucket.
Life jackets stay in hanging lockers in the cabin when not in use. I would be wary of acid damage from batteries there

The net is a great idea - I was trying to figure out some sort of graceful way to store ropes and such in there as mine tend to disappear into the bottom of the abyss. Thanks!
