311 centerboard problem

Jack Kimball Hull #61

Today my centerboard disconnected from the shaft. It APPEARS THE THRESDS ARE STRIPPED. It is now in the down position drawing 7ft in 6.5 ft of waster. Has anyone had this problem? What is the cause and fix. Can it be fixed without taking it out of the water? Would appreciate any comments.

Lifting Keel Problem

I was interested in this topic about 18 months ago because I had just purchased a B311 (later lost in Katrina - bummer). There was a report of a yard worker almost being seriously injured by a lifting keel which dropped while the boat was being hauled. I don't know if the archives go back this far, but I'm sure that our moderator will remember. Also check with Beneteau USA, and with Boat U.S. since they compile the required safety reports from the Coast Guard and manufacturers on defects.
