I'm trying to close on a new 310 and upon reviewing the specs for this particular boat, hull #92, I was surprised to see that the engine was changed from an Universal to a Westerbeke. I'm trying to get the model number of the new power plant but would assume it's probably the same as in the 320. Does anyone have any thoughts as to the pros and cons of this change? The boat just came in from the factory so I can only assume that the change was made by Catalina.

What's in a name?

I really haven't heard anything, but the thought came to me that Universal is a part of Westerbeke now. I wonder if it could just be a name mix up thing. Was the information that it was Westerbeke engine information that was generated by the dealer? I know my local dealer sometimes gets confused on details. Let us know if you find out any thing else.

Westerbeke/Universal

I am commissioning my 310 hull #80 in March. It has a Universal. When I ask the dealer about it, he informed me the Westerbeke bought out Universal. This seems to hold true with the documentation I have received. At the bottom of the owner’s manual it reads Universal Marine Power, Westerbeke Corporation. Hope this helps!
