I am trying to find some information about these boats. I have started searching but also would appreciate some 1st hand knowledge. I want to hear the good with the bad. Ultimately I am the one that has to make a decision but all information is helpful. Thank you in advance.

saw won on the hard a few years back

Belonged to a friend, it was sitting with the weight on the keel on the hard. the hull deflected about 2 to 3 inches all arround the keel hull joint. Just did not look good to me. He said it was no problem and sailed it for many years.

Islander 30 Mk II

My boat is a 73 Islander 30. The Bahama version came out a few years later. I really like my boat, bought it for cruising and just enjoying life and playing around. I know of a few who have taken theirs off shore to Hawaii and returned. I have not had any blister problems but boats that came out a few years later may have. I did not pay a whole lot for my boat but then again I have had to put a little more into it. New sails, electronics, added a holding tank, replaced the standing and running rigging, etc. I took it down the coast from San Francisco to Ensenada last fall. Had a great trip, some rough weather but it handled it well. I am leaving to head back down to the boat and am taking it to Cabo, then beyond.... www.bajaorbust.blogspot.com I've found the Islander list server on Sailnet to be pretty usefull. Also found a web site from a guy who spent 5 months cruising Southern Califorina and he as some good notes. His boat is a Bahama so you might want to have a look at it. http://inetd.com/Boat/SanDiego05/

Islander changed shape very often

during the production. I have a 68 Islander, full keel attached rudder, low aspect rig. I can post profile pic if that will help.

What is the difference between an Islander Bahama 30 and the 30 MKII? A buddy of mine has an Islander 30 for sale but I'm not sure what model it is. Although it is in Wisconsin, he delivers boats for a living.

Difference between Bahama 30 and 30 MKII

Coincidentally, I just read a review of the Islander 30 in Good Old Boat magazine last night. Ted Brewer's analysis touched on the difference between the Bahama 30 and the 30 MKII. If I may quote, he says "Initially, I was thoroughly confused about the Islander 30 MKII and the Islander Bahama 30, but I finally determined that the MKII is a slightly earlier version of the Bahama. The boats are virtually identical above the waterline but the Bahama appears to have slight modifications to the fin and rudder, although that may just be an error in the very small-scale drawings of the boats that I was able to find. The Bahama does have a very different layout and 20 feet more sail area than the MKII, along with 250 pounds less displacement and 180 pounds less ballast. This could give her a small edge in performance, although I expect it would be noticeable only in ghosting weather." That's all the information there was on comparing the two models to each other, the rest of the review compared them to a Newport 30 MKII, C&C 30, and Tartan 3000, all of which are remarkably similar in spec. The article appears in the March/April issue of Good Old Boat Magazine - perhaps my favorite.

Thank you

Thank you everyone for replying to my question. Rick A: thank you for the link. It is full of great stuff. Great link. I am going to be in Housron to look at this boat in April. Again, thankks for the great feedback. Looks like this could be a nice boat to meet my needs.
