302 Rudder Stufing Box?

So I was searching for a rudder stuffing box on my 302, but there does not appear to be one. Theres a fiberglass tube that runs up from the hull almost all the way to the quadrant.

So is there no rudder box on the 302?

There is no rudder post stuffing box on my O'Day 35. High enough that it has never given me any problems.

The best thing to have is a stuffing box, of course, but I guess they assume the open tube is high enough above the waterline to not be a problem under normal conditions. This is one example that differentiates coastal and inland classified boats from offshore vessels.

My rudder shaft tube has a grease fitting. A few squirts of waterproof grease once in a while should do the trick. Take a close look around to see if you have the same arrangement.
